What is included

Woodwork can be included within a full decorating scheme or quoted as focused work where the surrounding walls are already in suitable condition.

  • Preparing and painting internal doors and frames
  • Painting skirting boards, architraves and window boards
  • Decorating staircase strings, spindles, rails and related trim
  • Sanding and local filling of minor surface defects
  • Priming exposed or previously unsuitable surfaces
  • Coordinating satin, eggshell or gloss finishes with the room scheme

Suitable property types

Detailed woodwork appears across a wide range of homes, with the preparation varying according to age, design and previous coatings.

  • Period homes with extensive mouldings and trim
  • Modern houses and apartments
  • Hallways and multi-storey staircases
  • Rental properties requiring durable refreshes
  • Occupied homes where phased working is helpful

Preparation process

Existing coatings are checked for adhesion, damage and compatibility. Surfaces are cleaned, sanded and filled as required, with loose material removed rather than hidden beneath a new coat.

Hardware, flooring and adjacent finishes are protected. Bare areas, knots or difficult previous coatings may need specific primers before the finishing system is applied.

Finish and materials considerations

Satin, eggshell and gloss finishes create different levels of sheen and visual emphasis. Durability, drying behaviour and compatibility with the existing coating also need to be considered.

Dark-to-light colour changes and heavily worn details often need additional preparation and coats. Natural timber staining or varnishing requires a different assessment from opaque paint.

Why choose JC Decorators

The quality of painted woodwork is most visible around edges, joints and high-touch areas. JC Decorators gives those details the same attention as larger walls and ceilings.

Frequently asked questions

Not always. The existing coating is assessed for adhesion, condition and compatibility. Full removal may not be necessary where the surface is sound, but loose or failed material must be dealt with.

The right choice depends on the desired sheen, likely wear, existing coating and product system. Satin, eggshell and gloss each create a different appearance and should be selected for the specific job.

It may be possible after suitable preparation and priming. The existing finish and timber condition need to be inspected before a coating approach is confirmed.
