Three-Storey Staircase Refresh in Birmingham

The brief

The staircase was a key circulation space in the home, but it had started to look inconsistent and tired across the different levels. The client wanted a full refresh that would make the whole route feel cleaner and more intentional rather than like separate jobs completed at different times.

Because the space connected three storeys, changes in finish were visible from several positions. The work therefore needed to be treated as one continuous decorating scheme rather than a collection of unrelated landings and wall sections.

The work

Projects like this are rarely about one standout feature. They are about consistency: lines that read cleanly, finishes that work together, and enough care in the prep to keep the whole stairwell feeling sharp from top to bottom.

We prepared and redecorated the space level by level, keeping the scheme coordinated throughout so the staircase felt like one complete part of the home again. Walls, trim and high-traffic surfaces were considered together to avoid obvious changes in quality between floors.

Working methodically through the connected levels also made it possible to maintain cleaner transitions at landings, corners and the points where each section of the staircase met the next.

The outcome

The final result is brighter, neater, and more cohesive. The finish now reads consistently through the full height of the staircase instead of changing from one level to another.

Because the staircase links so much of the property together, improving it had an outsized effect on how the home feels overall. It also provides a useful example of why preparation and visual continuity matter in multi-level interior decorating.
